Our 2017-2018 regular season registration is currently open to male and female athletes ages 4 to 15 (K - 8th grade). To safely and effectively participate, we recommend that younger athletes be able to concentrate and actively participate in practice. Any athlete ages 4 or 5 must have a parent register to coach. If you feel that your young athlete is not yet at this level, we recommend you wait a year to register and very much look forward to seeing you next season. For middle school athletes, they are allowed to participate in both middle school and club wrestling activities.
We plan to open our season with a parent/athlete meeting on November 2nd at the Freshman Academy @ 6:30. During this meeting we will introduce you to our head coach, Coach Ferguson, and the rest of the wYc board members, as well as discuss the plans for the season and answer any of your questions. This will also be the time to turn in the IKWF registration paperwork and birth certificates (new wrestlers only).
We are looking forward to seeing your athlete at practice beginning November 6th at the Freshman Academy. Practices will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. We are going back to having closed practices. That means that unless a parent is coaching they will be expected to leave the practice room at 6:30 and return at 8:00. We will open the room on occasion at the beginning and end of practices so you may see your wrestlers progress.
Wrestlers will be placed into three groups (Gold Silver & Bronze). All three groups will focus on the fundamentals of wrestling. However, the more advanced groups will be more challenging both mentally and physically. In order to advance to a silver and gold group, each and every wrestler must demonstrate a continuous work ethic and drive to learn more advanced wrestling skills as well as be a great practice partner. We are confident that this system will streamline the process to make all wrestlers in every group more successful.
Wrestling shoes and headgear are required for all practices and are each wrestlers responsibility to obtain. For singlets and bags wYc will supply if needed. wYc requires that each athlete leave a $100 deposit check with us at equipment pick up. No equipment will be provided without deposit. This check will be returned at the end of the regular season when your equipment is returned and confirmation of volunteer hours at the Fighting Foxes Invitational is met.
We anticipate that the online tournament registration will open a few weeks after we begin practice for the 2017-2018 season. You will be able to register for a block of tournaments at one time or each tournament individually. The website service that we use charges an additional processing fee of 3.5% + $2 per transaction. Unfortunately, this is an unavoidable charge that we must endure to use this registration system. For example, if you log on 10 different times and register for 10 tournaments individually it will cost you $20. But if you log on and register for 10 tournaments at the same time, it will cost you $2.
wYc will be hosting our annual tournament, Yorkville Fighting Foxes Invitational, on January 21st. We need volunteers to make this tournament a success, and it is an expectation that your family is available to work at this event. Job sign-up sheets will be will be available at practices closer to date of tournament.
If you are interested in coaching with us for the upcoming season, you must follow the instructions under the coach tab on the yorkvillewrestlingclub.com website. All coaches must be fully registered and background checked to work with athletes. Coaches are responsible for paying their own costs for registration and background checks. Please use the same system log on you used to register your athlete to register as a coach.
To register your child for the 2017-2018 season, log into your Sports NGIN account and follow the “Regular Season Registration” link. Please note that the email address you list as your "primary" address during this registration will be the email address used by coaches and wYc to send you updated information throughout the season. Please provide us with a working email address that you check on a frequent basis. We have also found that some email addresses associated with an employer may block our emails, so we suggest using a personal email address. PLEASE use the same log on ID when you register for tournaments that you did when you signed in to register for the regular season (more info on this in the near future). You can add a second email to your account so that your spouse/significant other can receive the club emails as well. Registration fees for the wYc regular wrestling season will be $200, this includes USA Wrestling card and two tournaments. To offset some of our increasing costs, wYc has elected to hold ONE major fundraising event for the season. More details to follow. Please read through each page carefully to ensure all information is provided accurately. To complete registration through our secure site, please have your Visa, MasterCard, Discover or checking account information available. Registration fees for 2017 are $200 for your first child and $175 for each subsequent child. This decreased rate will only apply if you register ALL children at same time. We have also added the capability to pay your registration fee in installments using a credit card. The deposit due at time of registration will be 1/3 of your total per athlete. The second installment, 1/3, will be automatically charged to your credit card on December 1st, 2017 and the remainder of your balance will be charged on January 1st, 2018.
